Ritorno documentation
Ritorno is a Shopify theme built for brands that sell products customers buy again and again: supplements, wellness, pet food and care, coffee, cleaning refills. Every page is designed around the second, third and tenth order — subscriptions first, routines, refill timing and transparent ingredients.
Presets: Ritorno (wellness, small catalogs) and Tendly (pets, mid-size catalogs).
1. Getting started
- Install Ritorno from the Shopify Theme Store and open Online Store → Themes → Customize.
- Choose a preset look in Theme settings → Colors and Typography, or keep the defaults.
- Add your logo in Theme settings → Logo and favicon.
- Create two menus in Online Store → Navigation:
main-menu(header) andfooter. - Install a subscription app (for example Shopify Subscriptions) to unlock the purchase options described below. Ritorno works without one; subscription elements simply stay hidden.
2. Subscriptions and purchase options
Ritorno reads your subscription plans (selling plans) directly from Shopify. When a product has at least one plan:
- The product page shows two cards above the add-to-cart button: One-time purchase and Subscribe and refill, with the best saving as a badge and a delivery-frequency selector.
- Product cards show a Subscribe badge (Theme settings → Product cards).
- In the cart, every one-time line that could be a subscription shows Subscribe instead and pay X. One click converts the line.
- Products that require a plan hide the one-time option automatically.
Block settings (product page → Purchase options): heading, preselect subscription, subscription note.
3. Custom data (metafields and metaobjects)
All Ritorno-specific data lives under the ritorno namespace. Create the definitions in Settings → Custom data.
| Purpose | Owner | Namespace and key | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
| How long one unit lasts | Product or variant | ritorno.supply_days |
Integer |
| Routine steps shown on the product page and in the cart | Product | ritorno.routine |
Product (list) |
| Ingredient ledger | Product | ritorno.ingredients |
Metaobject (list) |
Ingredient metaobject: create a metaobject definition (for example Ingredient) with four single-line text fields whose keys are exactly name, purpose, origin and amount.
What each one does:
- Supply estimate (product page block): "One unit lasts about 30 days" and, as the shopper changes quantity, "plan your next refill around 12 March". A variant value overrides the product value. Product cards can show "Lasts about 30 days" (Theme settings → Product cards → Show supply length).
- Routine steps (product page block): numbered steps with quick add. If the metafield is empty, the block uses the fallback products picked in the editor. The cart drawer suggests the routine of the first product in the cart.
- Ingredient ledger (section): on product pages, rows come from the metafield; anywhere else (or if the metafield is empty), rows come from the section's blocks.
4. Sections
